Jacket Welder

• Automatic GMAW welding of 8 and 11 gauge carbon sheets to produce quarter section sub-assemblies of tank car jackets or wrappers

• Capable of making two simultaneous welds, joining three sheet at a time. Distance between weld torches is variable from 56 inches to 74 inches.

• Dual Programmable seam tracking systems are provided. A tactile probe rides in the welding joint to

provide accurate joint position for the welding electrodes.

The Jacket Welding Gantry is used in the fabrication of insulating jackets for cylindrical tank cars.

The Jacket Welding Gantry consists of two major structures: A cylindrically shaped material handling drum fixture used to support jacket sheets and provide weld travel motion by rotating about its center axis.

The second is a traveling gantry equipped with welding equipment and auxiliary apparatus. The gantry is self contained. It includes a vacuum operated material support system to carry individual formed sheets from an incoming storage rack to the drum fixture, then to carry the welded sections from the drum fixture to the outgoing storage rack.
