Coil Welder
• Twin wire submerged arc welding process for two simultaneous welds - accommodating four 5/64 inch diameter welding wires
• Capable of welding heater coils and reinforcement plates up to 17” in width onto tanks with diameters ranging from 90 inches up to, and including, 120 inches.
• Programmable seam tracking systems are provided. A tactile probe rides in the welding joint to
provide accurate joint position for the welding electrodes.
The Coil Welder finish welds pre-tacked heater coils and reinforcement plates to cylindrical tank cars by making two simultaneous welds to both sides of the heater coil or reinforcement plate.
The Coil Welder consists of a rigid high load capacity gantry that travels on rails straddling the tank car fabrication line. The gantry is a self contained motorized structure equipped with the necessary equipment for the welding operation. It includes a platform for carrying the welding module assembly, the welding power supplies, large capacity wire drums, and heavy-duty flux recovery systems.
The weld module assembly and operator platform is adjustable for different tank diameters. Optional movable turning rolls supporting the tank car during the welding process is available.
